Sanofi-Aventis continues to roll-out diet pill Acomplia (Rimonabant) in Europe, reporting on October 5th that the weight loss drug is now available in seven European countries.
In the past five weeks, Acomplia has been launched in Germany, Denmark, Norway, Ireland, Finland and Austria, according to a spokesperson. The first European Union launch took place in late June in the United Kingdom.
Sanofi has said it hopes Acomplia will be available in all the major European countries within "the next nine months," but not too many additional launches are expected to take place before the end of the year.
The revolutionary weight-loss drug was given official European Union approval in June for marketing in all member countries, but the process of actually getting it approved for sale to consumers varies greatly from one European country to another.
